She graduated from Old Dominion University in 2002 and completed her Master’s Degree in School Counseling at her Alma Mater in 2004. She is currently working on her Educational Specialist Degree in Administration and Leadership with Regent University. She has been a Professional School Counselor at Potomac Senior HS for the last 10 years. Mrs. Moore is excited about joining the Eagle family and looking forward to her new leadership role as Director of School Counseling at Freedom HS.
Freedom welcomes new Assistant Principal

Mr. Jeremy Byrd lives with his wife and two sons in Fauquier County Virginia.  He graduated from Taylor University in 1995 and completed his Master’s Degree at Appalachian State University in 2011. He has been a public education teacher in both North Carolina and Virginia for the past 19 years.  He recently moved into administration serving at both Stonewall Jackson High School and now Freedom High School.
Concussion Training
High school parents and students who are entering 9th grade and trying out for a sport for their first time in high school or are new to Prince William County Public schools must attend a face to face concussion training at their respective school. Click here to view the HS training dates. If you are unable to attend a scheduled Face-to-Face Concussion Training, the parent and student have the option to complete an online presentation for the first time participant as a high school student. This option will not be available until mid-July, 2015.

Parents and students who have already attended a face-to-face training may take this year’s mandatory concussion training online. Online training will be available after June 20, 2015.
Freedom Teachers selected to Stanford Hollyhock Fellowship

Congratulations to Mr. Jahb Prescott, Ms. Lauren Rega, Mr. Scott Kelly and Mr. Matthew Harmon for their successful Hollyhock Fellowship application to Stanford University. This fellowship includes 107 teachers from all over the country who are new to the field of education and who serve low income populations of students.

The Stanford Hollyhock Fellowship for Teachers is an intensive professional development institute at Stanford University offered to teachers with an exemplary teaching record and a commitment to their professional growth. This is an all-expenses paid, two year professional development, including two summers in California. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide support to new teachers in high needs schools because the research shows that nearly half of all teachers leave the classroom within five years, and in high poverty schools, the turnover rate is higher. As a result, the least experienced teachers are teaching students in the schools with the greatest need. Reducing teacher turnover at high poverty schools is essential to making progress in creating equitable educational opportunities in the United States. The Hollyhock Fellowship Program addresses these complicated educational realities.

Once again, congratulations to Mr. Prescott, Ms. Rega, Mr. Kelly and Mr. Harmon for being selected from hundreds of applicants from all over the country. We wish you a fun summer, and we expect each of you to show us how to surf when you return from sunny Southern California.
