Freedom High School is proud to announce that we have been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant from the Virginia Department of Education! The grant, which totals $600,000, will be dispersed over the course of three years. Life-size Whale...

Ms. Lang's regular education Oceanography students constructed a life size model of a blue whale. The whale was contructed after the Oceanography classes went to the National Aquarium to observe and study marine life. It is difficult for students to grasp a real understanding of how large these mammals really are. The whale is 70 feet long x 24 feet wide. Students from 4 different classes worked on this project for a week. Skills they had to use were measurements (in meters & feet), art, math, pattern reading, cutting & taping, problem solving and how to work effectively as a team. The students were very proud of what they accomplished and they were shocked to learn how small they are compared to a Blue Whale. Overall, everyone learned a lot and it was an experience I don't think they will forget soon.

Partners for Safe Teen Driving

Prom, Graduation, Summer Break...they are just around the corner. This is a great time of year to remind students about safe driving practices as they participate in these important events. A nice Web site for this is the Partners for Safe Teen Driving.
Change in graduation requirements for rising 9th grade students
As a result of legislation passed this spring by the Virginia Assembly, implementation of the Standard Technical and Advanced Technical Diplomas has been delayed for one year, now becoming effective with the ninth-grade class of 2012-13. Letters in English and Spanish to parents of rising ninth-graders explaining the delay in implementation are available on the Office of Student Services School Fusion page-
