TOUCHBASE CANCELLED!
Parents,
Due to the amount of instructional time lost during the recent snow storm, the TouchBase scheduled for Monday, February 8th has been postponed.  This fulfills teacher requests to recapture some of the weather-related losses by devoting time that would have been spent on TouchBase to working with students.
We are exploring the possibility of rescheduling TouchBase near the end of February.  This will depend on weather; any further loss of instructional time may necessitate cancelling TouchBase altogether.
As always, please continue to monitor your child's progress on Parent Portal.  If you have any concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher or school counselor.
Thank you for your continued support.

Special Needs Information Night
There will be a Special Needs Information Night at Freedom High School in room 1407 (Drama Room) on Wednesday, February 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Please join us to learn about the Community Services Board (CSB) and the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS).  Those interested should RSVP no later than February 16th to Ms. Myrna Nolla-Horner @ 703.583.1405 or nollamm@pwcs.edu.
Course Selection for the 2016-2017 School Year
Due to snow interruption county wide, the dates for online submission for course requests have changed and are as follows:
1. The deadline for teachers to input course recommendations for next school year is now February 5th at midnight.
2. Parents and students will be allowed to view teacher recommendations starting February 6th and will be allowed to input any course requests into Parent Portal through February 10th.
The course catalog is available on the Prince William Schools website.  Parents, please take the time to discuss your child's schedule for the 2016-2017 school year with your student.  If you have questions, please contact the Counseling Office at Freedom High School.

Concussion Training
High school parents and students who are entering 9th grade and trying out for a sport for their first time in high school or are new to Prince William County Public schools must attend a face to face concussion training at their respective school. Click here to view the HS training dates. If you are unable to attend a scheduled Face-to-Face Concussion Training, the parent and student have the option to complete an online presentation for the first time participant as a high school student.  Parents and students who have already attended a face-to-face training may take this year’s mandatory concussion training online.
Naviance / Family Connect

Parents and Students,  All PWC students have access to Family Connection - a comprehensive website that you and your student can use to make plans about colleges and careers. Family Connection is linked with Naviance, a service that we use in our office to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that's specific to our school. For more information please read the Naviance Information Letter (below) and visit the School Counseling Webpage/Naviance Tab. Please have your student log-in using their student # and DOB to add their e-mail to their Family Connection profile TODAY! This way they will stay connected with counseling updates! To ensure you receive updates too please e-mail your child’s counselor so they can make sure your e-mail address is a part of the profile.
